“I’m sorry for that,” Matheus Nunes says after the stunning Wolves exit.

Matheus Nunes, Manchester City’s summer signing, has apologized to Wolves fans ahead of their return to Molineux this weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s team travels to the Midlands looking to extend their winning streak to seven matches after an excellent start to their Premier League championship defense.

Manchester City, who were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in midweek, are aiming to win the Premier League for the fourth time in a row, and will go to Wolves on Saturday.

Former Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes moved to the Etihad Stadium on Deadline Day, completing a £53 million transfer to Manchester City just one year after moving to Molineux from Sporting Lisbon, for a club-record fee.

The 25-year-old dazzled in his Premier League debut season and has made a solid start at Manchester City, appearing in four games and collecting an assist against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Nunes was one of several late midfielder targets for Manchester City during the summer transfer window, and in an attempt to force a move to the Sky Blues, the Portugal midfielder refused to train with Wolves.

During an interview with the Manchester Evening News ahead of his return to Molineux on Saturday, the midfielder apologized to Wolves fans.

“I can understand there are some [Wolves] supporters not happy with my decision [to leave] and for that I’m sorry,” stated the 25-year-old.

“I made my choice, but it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.” Manchester City is a premier [club] with the best players and manager in the world. Last year, they won the treble.

“I didn’t know if I’d ever get that chance again, so I just took it.” I’ll be eternally thankful to Wolves for providing me with that opportunity.

“I understand that my decision not to workout may irritate certain supporters. I apologize for it.

“It was something, maybe I would have done differently but it was my decision because I couldn’t let this opportunity pass by.”

Nunes was Manchester City’s fourth and final signing of the summer window, joining Jeremy Doku, Josko Gvardiol, and Mateo Kovacic at the Etihad Stadium.

As Guardiola deals with the absences of Rodri, Bernardo Silva, and Kevin De Bruyne for Saturday’s Premier League showdown, the Portugal midfielder appears likely to start against his former team.
