Newcastle will now be without another vital player for the West Ham match.

Newcastle United are looking a touch thin on the left wing.

Indeed, Harvey Barnes was brought in over the summer to give cover, but he was tragically injured during the triumph over Sheffield United.

Eddie Howe must rely on his team to cover three competitions already before the FA Cup begins at the turn of the year.

Howe does have choices on the left, but they are becoming increasingly limited, and events on Saturday exacerbated the position.

Barnes is out, and another player will miss the trip to West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday, only days after facing PSG in the Champions League.

Anthony Gordon has been suspended for the West Ham match.

Anthony Gordon, who took Barnes’ place at Bramall Lane to maintain his impressive start to the season, will also be unavailable.

The 22-year-old is suspended after receiving a yellow card for kicking the ball away during Saturday’s Premier League match against Burnley at St James’ Park.

If truth be told, it was a cheap yellow card that might leave Newcastle light in east London for another major game.

Isak or Joelinton to take the lead?

Gordon must do better with such petulance. With all of his progress this season, he’s now left Howe with no other options in an area of the field where he was previously lacking.

Fortunately, both Alexnader Isak and Joelinton (depending on fitness) can play that position. Still, being without Gordon, one of Newcastle’s standout players this season, isn’t ideal.

West Ham have made a strong start to the season and will not be taken lightly. The task has now become more difficult.
