Newcastle has identified a classy Premier League star as their ‘priority target’ for January, following the rejection of a £30 million bid.

Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen is reportedly one of Newcastle United’s ‘top targets’ for the January transfer window.

It’s no secret that Eddie Howe wants to bring in a new center-back to compete with Sven Botman and Fabian Schar, and the 27-year-old is an excellent choice.

Andersen joined Crystal Palace for £15 million in 2021 after a successful loan spell with Premier League rivals Fulham.

He has subsequently become one of the Eagles’ first names on the roster, forging a deadly defensive tandem with Marc Guehi.

According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle made a late £30 million approach for Andersen during the summer window, but Crystal Palace rejected it immediately.

The North East club appears to be interested in re-signing Andersen in January, but Crystal Palace will not let him leave cheaply.

Newcastle will almost certainly have to make an offer well in excess of £30 million to entice the Denmark international to St James’ Park.

Andersen is one of Newcastle’s ‘priority targets.’

Newcastle are ‘closely monitoring’ Andersen ahead of the January transfer window, according to Football Insider, and are poised to make a new approach for him.

“The Magpies have held a long-term interest in the centre-back, 27, and submitted a late summer bid that was rejected by Palace,” according to the article.

“However, Newcastle remain eager to bolster their defensive department in January and are willing to return to the table with an offer for Andersen’s signature.”

“It is understood that Andersen remains one of Newcastle’s top targets for the January window.”

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle and Crystal Palace can reach a deal for Andersen this summer.
