Southampton and several Championship clubs are interested in Sunderland’s ace.

Patrick Roberts, a Sunderland player, is coveted by Southampton and others when his contract expires in 2024, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.
Ross Stewart left Sunderland for Southampton on deadline day this summer, and former Black Cats teammate Roberts was almost the same.

According to Witcoop, the 26-year-old was subject to a £4.5million bid on deadline day, and the Saints are just one of a number of Championship clubs keeping tabs on the Sunderland player.

According to reports last month, Roberts has been offered a new contract at the Stadium of Light, with his present one set to expire at the end of the season.

Roberts, a former Manchester City player, was a standout for Tony Mowbray’s Sunderland last season, appearing in 44 Championship games and scoring five goals and providing seven assists.

This season, Roberts has appeared seven times in the Championship but has yet to score for the Black Cats, who are presently fourth in the table.

Roberts to sign new contract with Sunderland?

Sunderland will fight tooth and nail to keep Roberts. Mowbray frequently expresses his love for the Englishman, and despite playing a rotating role recently, he remains an important player.

However, given that he is poised to become a free agent next summer and has yet to sign a new contract with Sunderland, teams will obviously be interested.

Southampton could be an appealing option for Roberts in the future, and if they make a January bid, it could push Sunderland’s hand.

They won’t want to lose the player on a free transfer next year, so if a new deal isn’t reached, Sunderland may cash in.

On Wednesday, the Black Cats will face Watford.
