Dominic Matteo, a former Leeds United player, believes that summer signing Jaidon Anthony has been the primary difference-maker at Elland Road since the club’s relegation last season.

The Yorkshire club stated late on transfer deadline day that Anthony had been brought in on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season, with Luis Sinisterra moving the other way, also on a temporary basis.
Anthony was a significant player in the Cherries’ return to the Premier League under Scott Parker in the 2021/22 season, and he was also crucial last season as Gary O’Neil kept the side in the top level for the first time.

Following last season’s relegation, Sinisterra was keen to leave the Lilywhites, therefore Anthony was brought in as a direct replacement for the Colombian and managed to open his account for Leeds in a comfortable 3-0 win against Watford a week ago.
Former Leeds captain Dom Matteo feels Anthony is the difference-maker this season and that his goal against the Hornets was a “Premier League goal.”

Matteo told LUTV’s Matchday Show [quoted via Leeds United News]:

“Another player who came on made an impact on the team.” He maintains his cool. We didn’t have much poise last year. I realize it’s not the Premier League, but for me, that was a Premier League goal.

“He just guides it into the corner for his goal.” A nice conclusion. That is a player that understands his role in that position. As I already stated, we have choices all around the football field. We looked dangerous in the game.”

Author’s Opinion

Despite the club’s relegation to the Championship, Sinisterra enjoyed a strong debut season with Leeds. With Jaidon Anthony in the lineup, few fans will miss the tricky Colombian.

Anthony could turn out to be a wise signing, and if he continues to perform well, Leeds may attempt to make the swap permanent in the near future.
