The father who was mauled to death in a Sunderland XL Bully assault ‘wouldn’t have stood a chance.’

The father-of-one, who was born in Liverpool, was out walking his Patterdale terrier dog when the horrible incident occurred, which is now being investigated as murder.

A father who was mauled to death by an XL Bully while walking his own puppy has been identified.

Ian Langley, 54, was out walking his Patterdale terrier puppy, Beau, on Tuesday, October 3 in Sunderland when he was attacked.

According to the Mirror, the dog was destroyed at the scene to protect the public, and one person has now been detained on suspicion of murder following the terrible occurrence.

Ian lived alone and had grown quite attached to his canine buddy Beau. As his sole son resides abroad, he often spent time with his neighbors, who would stop by for tea and a talk.

“It’s absolutely devastating that this has happened to him,” remarked Rachael Barron, 31. He is a wonderful, nice man. He’s very small and couldn’t kill a fly; he’d have had no chance fighting a dog that enormous; it makes me sick to think about it.

“Scouse would come to our house three or four times a day for meals or just to talk.” He had recently split up with his spouse and was living alone, but he enjoyed company and would come over just to speak, and he was wonderful with our children.”

“He has a son of his own who lives abroad; it is such a tragedy for him as well,” she continued. Scouse went to the local church for lunch yesterday and returned later because he’d left Beau with us to look after. He was content, saying he’d had a delicious supper and was glad to see Beau again. He adored his dog; he was a true dog lover.

“His long-term companion, Smudge, died recently, and he didn’t know what to do with himself without him.” My partner and I urged him to acquire another dog, and we found him Beau at the age of eight weeks. They were usually together, and he was always out walking him.

“I’m not sure what happened, but if another dog had tried to attack Beau, Scouse would have done anything to protect him.” We’ve been crushed, and I haven’t even told the kids yet since they’ll be so sad. Everyone knew and liked him; he was a wonderful person. He didn’t work and spent all of his time with Beau or helping folks with their allotments. He simply enjoyed being around people.”

A 44-year-old man was detained on suspicion of murder, and the dog was “destroyed at the scene to ensure the public’s safety.” “A murder investigation has been launched after a man was fatally injured by an XL bully type dog,” the force stated in a statement on Wednesday, September 4.

“On Tuesday, October 3, shortly before 6.55 p.m., police received a report that a dog had injured a man outside of an address on Maple Terrace in Shiney Row, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear.” The man, 54, was rushed to the hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries after emergency personnel arrived on the scene.”

“Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he sadly passed away last night,” they continued. The man’s family has been notified, and they are being assisted by specially trained officers. We request that their privacy be maintained during this difficult time.”
