Greenwood rose through the Sunderland ranks before being traded to Arsenal in 2018, despite never making a professional appearance for the club. The 21-year-old is now under contract with Leeds but joined Middlesbrough on loan this summer, making his debut in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Cardiff.

“I went to school in Sunderland, so all of my friends are Sunderland supporters, but I just have to be professional about it.” I’m now a Middlesbrough player, and I’ll fight for them. It’s all about the team I’m on, therefore I’ll go for the win.”
Greenwood began as No. 10 against Cardiff, with Matt Crooks sliding to the bench due to an injury niggle, as Boro won their third straight league game ahead of Saturday’s trip to Wearside.
“It’s going to be a big game on Saturday,” Greenwood continued. “I’m confident we can win and keep pushing as a team.” It’s up to the gaffer whether I start or not, but hopefully I’ve done enough.”
