Justin Simmons has been ruled out of the Broncos’ game against the Dolphins.

Justin Simmons (hip) of the Denver Broncos has been declared out of Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. Outside linebacker Frank Clark (hip) of the Denver Broncos has also been ruled out for Week 3.

Mike Purcell (ankle) of the Denver Broncos returned to practice on a limited basis on Friday and is classified as questionable on the injury report.

Delarrin Turner-Yell will likely start at free safety in lieu of Simmons, across from Kareem Jackson. With injured safeties Cade Sterns (knee) and P.J. Locke (leg), rookie JL Skinner is the lone backup behind Jackson and Turner-Yell this week. Essang Bassey, the cornerback, will most likely provide emergency depth at safety.

Jonathon Cooper is scheduled to start opposite Randy Gregory again at outside linebacker, with Nik Bonitto and Thomas Incoom taking rotational snaps behind him.

Purcell’s likely absence on the defensive line might mean more snaps for Matt Henningsen and Elijah Garcia versus Miami.

The complete injury report from Friday is available here.

This week, the Dolphins (2-0) are 6.5-point favorites over the Broncos (0-2). The game will kick off at 11:00 a.m. MT on certain CBS networks (see the TV schedule here).
