Leeds United injury news as the Whites face a probable left-back crisis ahead of their match against Bristol City

Bristol City will make their second trip to Yorkshire in four days on Saturday when they travel to a Leeds United side suffering from big injuries

Leeds United will be without midfielder Jamie Shackleton when they host Bristol City on Saturday afternoon whilst a “late call” will be made on left-back Sam Byram and winger Jaidon Anthony is “50/50” according to manager Daniel Farke.

Speaking ahead of hosting the Robins at Elland Road, former Norwich City boss Farke said: “Jamie will sadly miss the game. His shoulder is too painful and we need some further assessment. I hope he’s available the other side of the international break.

“He’ll definitely miss the game tomorrow and that’s bad news. With Jaidon Anthony and his knock I would say 50-50, it was painful and a bit sore.

“Yesterday he rolled his ankle, today it’s much improved and it looks like he could train, we’ll have to see this afternoon and I would say with him it’s 50-50 if he’s well. I was pleased with his first appearance in the starting line-up and hopefully he’s available, if not we have to find some other solutions. But I’d say 50-50 if he’s available to play.”

Youth product Shackleton had started in six of Leeds’ nine league matches prior to Wednesday evening but didn’t make the squad for the 1-0 home win over QPR. As for Anthony, the Bournemouth loanee got his first start for the club against the Hoops having scored his first goal for Farke’s men in the 3-0 victory over Watford two weeks ago.

The German manager added: “With Sam Byram we’ll have to see and make a late call. The situation is slightly better because he’s more and more in his rhythm.”

If Byram is absent then the Whites will have major issues at left-back with Junior Firpo still side lined, as are winger Wilfried Gnonto (ankle) and right-backs Stuart Dallas (broken leg) and Djed Spence (ligament damage).

Moreover, Friday saw Leeds announce the departure of winger Helder Costa by mutual consent with the 29-year-old spending the last two seasons away from the club on loan at Valencia and Al-Ittihad.

As for City, a late call will be made on right-back George Tanner who missed the midweek trip to Rotherham United with an ankle injury. The issue is not thought to be a serious one, with scans positive, but City are likely to tread with care over his involvement. Forward Mark Sykes is a slight doubt due to a minor foot issue which impacted his influence against the Millers but the Irishman is expected to play in Yorkshire.

The two sides are separated by just one point after midweek victories in the Championship with it almost deja vu once again for Nigel Pearson’s side as they make a second trip to Yorkshire in four days.

Relegated from the Premier League last season, the Whites are unbeaten on their own turf with two wins and three draws at Elland Road so far this campaign while the Robins have had a decent start on the road, taking 10 points from the 15 available away from Ashton Gate.
