Stanley Wilson, a former Detroit Lions player, died in a psychiatric facility at the age of 40.

The footballer had a number of mental and drug issues.

The NFL community is in grief over the loss of former Detroit Lions cornerback Stanley Wilson Jr., who died at the age of 40 after collapsing at the Metropolitan State Hospital of Los Angeles County a few days ago, despite the fact that the news was only disclosed on Wednesday.

Wilson, the son of former Cincinnati Bengals running back Stanley Wilson Sr., was rushed to the hospital on Feb. 1, months after being arrested for vandalism last August and being held in a county jail.

The former Lions player played with the team from 2005 to 2007, and he has a long history of mental illnesses. He was arrested in August for breaking into a Hollywood Hills residence, taking a bath in an outside fountain, and harming property.

Mentally incapable of standing trial
According to prosecutors, the former Lions player was judged incapable to stand trial for the aforementioned and previous incidents, resulting in his transfer to Metropolitan State Hospital, which specializes in mental health care.

Wilson was wounded in the abdomen during an attempted robbery at a Southwest Portland home in 2016, and he was charged with the crime.

He was arrested again in Portland in January 2017 for strolling naked through a neighborhood. In February 2017, he was arrested for the third time for breaking into another residence while naked.

Wilson collapsed and died after his admittance to a psychiatric facility in early February. So far, no cause of death has been announced, and autopsy findings are pending, and it is unclear whether he left behind family.
