Unai Emery of Aston Villa wants to relaunch his search for a “top defender”

Villa continue to be ambitious in the transfer market.

According to reports, Aston Villa are continuing to be proactive in the transfer market as they move ahead to 2024, and manager Unai Emery is now keen to revive his interest in an experienced defender he failed to sign this summer.

Breaking worldwide news from Aston Villa…

Journalist Dean Jones told GIVEMESPORT that Youri Tielemans will be upset with his lack of game time at Villa Park this season, saying: “Villa are having a good season so far, and it’s impacting him personally.” It’s upsetting for him, especially since the Euros are coming up at the conclusion of the season. If you look at what’s occurred to Tielemans’ career over the last couple of seasons from the outside, you might think it’s going backwards because of his game time and the influence he has over games.”

Last weekend, Aston Villa drew 1-1 at Molineux against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and commentator Alan Shearer argued on Match of the Day 2 via Birmingham Live that the Villans should’ve had a penalty for Matt Doherty’s challenge on Ollie Watkins.

“If he doesn’t shove him, he’s getting a clear shot at goal,” Shearer explained. He clearly shoves him, enough to knock him off balance. That is why he misses the target so badly. That should have been a penalty in my opinion.”

Of course, the most current news from Aston Villa is that striker Watkins has signed a new contract with the club that will keep him at Villa Park until the summer of 2028.

Watkins told the Villans’ official website that he is eager to be a part of the club’s future goals, saying, “I’m really happy.” I believe that this is the finest place for me to play football; I still have a lot to do here. Since I’ve been here, I’ve had a pretty wonderful connection with the fans. They’ve been great with me since day one; we’ve had highs and lows, but that’s football. You can see the club’s trajectory, and I want to be a part of it.”

Marcos Acuna has joined Aston Villa on loan.

According to a recent transfer update on Sevilla’s Marcos Acuna, Aston Villa are keen to rekindle their pursuit of the Argentinian full-back and are willing to attempt again in January.

The report does not specify the fee required to acquire Acuna; however, Emery is familiar with his presence from his time in La Liga and could now enact an ambitious swoop after coming close to securing his services in the summer transfer window, with Sevilla willing to part ways with the veteran defender in the New Year.

Acuna, dubbed a “top defender” by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, has made 135 appearances for Sevilla in all competitions, scoring five goals and assisting 13 times (Acuna’s statistics – Transfermarkt).

Now, it appears that Aston Villa manager Emery is determined to persuade Acuna to leave the warm shores of Andalusia for a shot at the English Premier League.
