The Dodgers have signed top international prospect Hyun-Suk Jang to a $900,000 contract.
The Los Angeles Dodgers may have strengthened their pitching staff for the future.
According to Korea Baseball Organization source Dan Kurtz, the Dodgers signed foreign pitching prospect Hyun-Suk Jang to a $900,000 prospect contract.
On August 14, Jang will hold a press conference.
According to SB Nation’s Eric Stephen, such a deal is possible since Los Angeles gained additional international bonus slot space in a trade with the Chicago White Sox. The 19-year-old pitcher had to be acquired through a trade since the National League West team had already spent the majority of its $4.1 million international bonus pool.
Jang could have been the first overall choice in the KBO draft, but he chose to pursue his major league goal instead.
“It was a difficult decision for me because I wanted to pitch in both the KBO and the MLB,” Jang stated in a statement delivered by Stephen. “But ultimately, I wanted to challenge myself in the best league in the world and decided to take a crack at MLB.”
Jang has a 97 mph fastball and a pitching arsenal that includes a curveball, changeup, slider, and sweeper, according to Noah Camras of Dodgers Nation.
It will undoubtedly take some time for the adolescent to get into the major leagues, especially for a team like the Dodgers, who are perennial contenders with a plethora of formidable talent.
But he has a promising future, and Los Angeles hopes to see him on the mound at Dodger Stadium in the coming years.
