West Ham United are still interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

Hugh Southon reports that West Ham is still interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

The Hammers reporter stated on Claret & Hugh on Saturday (14 October) that any approach from United will be made at the conclusion of the season rather than in the January window.

In the summer, the Hammers expressed “genuine” interest in signing the Ecuador international, but no firm proposals were made [Ben Jacobs].

According to Southon, a move for a player worth €35 million (£30 million) will not be viable until next summer due to Leverkusen’s reluctance to sell midway through the season and West Ham’s lack of cash.

Feasible

Given the current rumors surrounding Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma, it is no surprise that West Ham continue to be associated with centre-backs.

Harry Maguire’s name keeps coming up, and AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw was mentioned this week as a possible target [Manuele Baiocchini].

Hincapie has certainly been on David Moyes’ radar for some time, but any deal is likely to be contingent on a player leaving London Stadium first.

The 21-year-old appears to be a major talent, but he will not be cheap because he is under contract with Leverkusen until 2027.

While he has struggled for starts at Leverkusen this season, the fact that he can also play at left-back suggests that his opportunities will come.

That versatility is no doubt another reason why Moyes is allegedly interested in Hincapie, thus this is a move that appears to be plausible in the future.

In other West Ham news, Fabrizio Romano has updated the club’s interest in another player.
