Wigan Warriors secure NRL player Jai Field on a two-year contract following the departure of the Parramatta Eels.
After leaving the Parramatta Eels at the end of the 2020 NRL season, Jai Field inks a two-year agreement with the Super League’s league champions; he is likely to be a replacement for fellow Australian Jackson Hastings, who is contemplating his options for 2021.
Wigan have signed Australian back Jai Field, who is expected to have the same influence on Super League as fellow countryman Bevan French.
Field, a half-back or full-back like French, ended the 2020 NRL season with Parramatta and has signed a two-year agreement with the Warriors beginning in 2021.
He is anticipated to replace Jackson Hastings, the reigning Man of Steel who is contemplating his options for 2021, and to team up with French, who has scored 22 tries in 27 games since joining Wigan at the conclusion of last season.
“I am really excited to be joining Wigan,” said Field, who has 17 NRL games for St George Illawarra and the Eels. I’m honored to have been given the opportunity to play for such a storied club.
“I’ve been watching the team from afar in Australia and I’m having a great time watching them play some fantastic rugby.” I’m looking forward to being a part of it next year and beyond.
“It was also fantastic to see the club win the League Leaders’ Shield on Friday.” I was excited about Bevan French, whom I already know.
“I am looking forward to the challenge and I am confident that I can contribute to gain more success for the club.”
“Jai is a player I’ve watched since he was 15 years old,” Warriors head coach Adrian Lam, who is poised to begin contract negotiations, stated.
“He’s a very intelligent rugby league player who will be an X-factor addition to our squad in 2021.” His skill levels are on par with those of any NRL player.
“I see him as a modern-day Bevan French – he has great footwork and pace, and he will add to our attacking flair.” He could be the fastest player in Super League next year.”
“We are delighted to welcome Jai Field to the club,” stated Wigan executive director Kris Radlinski. He will add excitement to a backline that already has a lot of skill and quickness.
“With his footwork and the acceleration required to break down defenses, he is very similar to Bevan French.”
“We will encourage him to express himself and have fun on the rugby league field.”
“He will link up with his team-mates in early January once the start of the 2021 Super League season is confirmed.”
