Mohamed Ibrahim has joined the Lions practice squad.

Due to recent injuries, the Lions added depth at running back.

According to NFL rumors, the Detroit Lions have signed running back Mo Ibrahim to their practice squad.

The transfer is intended to improve running back depth, since both David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs have been injured in recent weeks. Gibbs has been ruled out for the last two games, forcing the team to rely on its depth.

Craig Reynolds has been an important part of the backfield rotation in recent weeks, first spelling Montgomery and then taking over as the starter when the veteran suffered a rib injury.

Running back is just one of several positions that have been ravaged by injuries. Despite this, Dan Campbell and his squad have kept the team on a winning streak.

Campbell complimented the front management with putting together the roster and depth needed to keep the team successful.

“Our GM is doing a hell of a job. Let me start there, alright, because he’s giving us guys that have the ability to grow and develop, have talent and then the coaches are developing that talent,” Campbell said. “But, I think also there’s a mindset here. I think everybody on the roster, top to bottom, whether you’re a starter, you’re a reserve, you’re on the vet squad, the practice squad, they really believe that at some point here, they’re going to have an impact on helping us win, because we preach it all the time. And, we say it even when we – those tough cuts in training camp, it’s like, ‘Look, just because you don’t make the 53, if you’re here, you’re on our practice squad, vet squad – you’re probably going to play for us. And, we’re going to need you to step up and take on a role, and there can’t be a drop off, there can’t be a deficiency.'”

Ibrahim began his career with the Lions as an undrafted free agent. He appeared in just one preseason game before being waived due to an injury suffered in the preseason opener.

Due to injuries, the Lions have already used a number of players from their practice squad.

“I believe they believe that.” And I think the rest of the guys on the roster, because they’ve been around, they’ve earned it by the way they work and prepare,” Campbell added. “‘OK, you’re the next guy up.'” I have faith in you. Let’s get started.’ And I believe it’s something we preach. We discuss it all the time. We don’t look at such folks and say, ‘Well, you’re not good enough. You will not be able to do it. We can’t put our trust in him.’ So, I believe there is a mindset involved.”
