Geoff Toovey is back with the Sea Eagles.

Geoff Toovey, one of Manly’s favorite sons, is returning to the Sea Eagles to assist manage the next generation of exciting young talent.

The 1996 Manly premiership captain has accepted a post as the Sea Eagles’ Pathways Coaching Co-ordinator.

The former Sea Eagles coach (2012-2015) will be in charge of the Harold Matthews, SG Ball, Jersey Flegg, Tarsha Gale Cup, Lisa Fiaola, and junior development coaching programs at Manly.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity of producing some local talent and to help develop them into future first graders at Manly.”

Toovey’s experience as a former NSW and Australian player and NRL coach would be invaluable to local coaches who will be able to draw on his extensive understanding of the game.

After making his debut in 1988, the champion half-back played 286 first-grade games for Manly and the Northern Eagles. In the 1996 Grand Final, he received the Clive Churchill Medal.

Toovey’s appointment, according to Sea Eagles CEO Tony Mestrov, will further boost the club’s successful Pathways program and ties to the local Junior Rugby League.

“Tooves has a lot to offer us.” Everyone is overjoyed to have him back, including the players and coaching staff,” Mestrov added.

“The members and fans will enjoy it as well.” He is extremely well-liked and respected.

“The junior reps program is a vital component of any NRL club.”

“Tooves will oversee the coaching of our best juniors to ensure they are ready for the NRL when their time comes.”
