DONE DEAL: Suns midfielder is acquired by Carlton – AFL trade news

Carlton and the Gold Coast have reached an agreement that involves multiple draft picks.

Carlton has successfully acquired former top-10 pick Elijah Hollands from the Gold Coast Suns.

The Blues had been interested in Hollands for a while, hoping to partner him with his brother, Ollie, who impressed on the wing in his maiden season with Carlton.

The Blues and Suns agreed to send the 21-year-old to Princes Park on the evening of the trade deadline day.

According to Riley Beveridge of AFL.com.au, Carlton will trade Pick 26 and Essendon’s future third-round pick for Hollands, Pick 28 and Gold Coast’s future fourth-round pick.

Hollands struggled to break into the senior lineup on the Gold Coast, with Suns list boss Craig Cameron declaring in early October that if Hollands wanted to explore his options, he was more than welcome to do so.

The Suns intend to draft a trio of Academy stars in the upcoming draft, as the club works to gain as much draft capital as possible in order to match rival clubs’ contending bids.

As a result, Hollands, along with the likes of now-Crow Chris Burgess and soon-to-be Hawk Mabior Chol, are clearly expendable in the eyes of Gold Coast’s list bosses.

Hollands averaged 14.2 disposals, 3.5 marks, 1.4 clearances, and 2.4 tackles in 14 games for the Suns. In his three years in Florida, he also scored eight goals but did not appear in any games during his debut season.

The trade deadline for this year is set for 7:30 PM (AEDT).
