Rangers are interested in signing Mason Cotcher, who recently played for Arsenal.

According to the Sunderland Echo, Rangers are one of three clubs interested in signing Sunderland midfielder Mason Cotcher.

The tabloid stated on its website on Monday (23 October) that Arsenal and Brighton are also interested in signing the 17-year-old forward.

It was said that the England youth international played for the Gunners’ U-18s team this week and that he can leave the Stadium of Light at any time for a compensation sum because he is just on a scholarship deal.

There is no doubt that Rangers face tough competition in the form of Arsenal and Brighton if they want to land a deal for Cotcher.

The Gunners appear to have stolen a march in the race to sign the forward after he has already played for their youth side, suggesting both parties are interested in the move.

The Seagulls are also a viable alternative for the teenager, since a number of young players have progressed significantly since moving to the Amex Stadium in recent years.

However, the Gers may be able to offer Cotcher a faster path to the first team than the other Premier League clubs, and Glasgow is substantially closer to Sunderland than the other clubs if he wishes to stay closer to home.

It will be fascinating to watch how this one develops, but it appears like the Light Blues may face some difficulties in completing this transaction.

In other Rangers news, a highly regarded transfer guru has declined an approach from the club.
