Despite Marvin Jones’ departure, Campbell feels ‘very good’ about his receivers.
Following the departure of the veteran, Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell remains optimistic in the WR position group.
It’s difficult for many Detroit Lions fans to see Marvin Jones Jr. leave the team so soon after his return.
The veteran wide out announced his retirement from football on Tuesday to focus on family problems.
“Although it was not an easy decision, I cannot be the person/player that this team requires while also caring for my family from afar.” “Over the years, this organization has been amazing in showing love and support for myself and my family, and this time is no different,” he wrote in an Instagram post.
Jones did not accompany the squad to Baltimore this week. Dan Campbell explained his absence as a personal reason when asked about it. He was later released.
“We certainly appreciate Marvin and what he brought to the table,” Campbell said in a statement on Thursday.
Jones spent five years with the Lions before moving on to Jacksonville for two years before returning to Detroit on a one-year contract. In five games, he grabbed five passes for 35 yards.
“He handled his business like a pro.” “We appreciate his candor and wish him the best of luck; he is always welcome here,” Campbell added.
Campbell stated that the receivers they still have are in good condition.
“We’re doing well in the receiver room.” “We have the five that were up last week,” he explained. That includes Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds, Jameson Williams, Kalif Raymond, and Antoine Green, a rookie.
“We’ve got some young guys there on the vet squad that have been practicing and working, so we feel pretty good,” he said.
The Lions did bring in Tom Kennedy, who has spent a lot of time on Detroit’s practice squad but has played in 20 games during that time. Could it be a stand-in? Jeremy has more on this here.
