Daniel Jones’s season-ending injury devastated Darius Slayton.
Although the team is saddened by Jones’ unfortunate injury, the Giants receiver says the show must go on.

Daniel Jones, the quarterback for the New York Giants, suffered a torn ACL during Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders. His teammates expressed their shock and sadness for their lost leader on offense when it was revealed that Jones would miss the remainder of the season.

Wide receiver Darius Slayton, who entered the league in the same draft class as Jones in 2019, expressed his disappointment, saying, “It’s pretty disappointing.” “You never want to watch any of your teammates suffer, but in my case, it’s been a natural bond between a receiver and quarterback their entire career, and I’ve been here with DJ.” Naturally, I believe it to be somewhat personal.

Due to a neck injury, Jones missed the last six games of the 2021 season. With Mike Glennon and Jake Fromm filling in at quarterback, the Giants offense found it difficult to move the ball.

The Giants quarterbacks this season will start Tommy DeVito, an undrafted rookie, behind veteran journeyman Matt Barkley, with Tyrod Taylor out due to a rib cage injury.

Slayton saw things differently than most, however, as the 2-7 Giants team doesn’t exactly seem like they’re fighting for a postseason berth, but rather a high draft pick.

“As a team, we were in a bit of a different space and predicament then than we are now,” he remarked. “In my opinion, DeVito performed admirably on Sunday given the limited time he had, and he will only grow and improve further.

“And because Matt Barkley has been in the system for a while, he finds himself in a slightly different situation than even our previous quarterbacks, who were trying to learn something new while he was an experienced player. The guys we have will, in my opinion, be able to perform admirably for us moving forward.

The close relationship that Jones and Slayton have developed both on and off the field is hardly a secret. Slayton is constantly quick to defend his friend from the doubters on social media.

Despite the fact that Jones’s cap hit for the upcoming season prevents him from being cut from the squad, there is already discussion about replacing him as the starter in light of his most recent injury. But despite all the talk, Slayton thinks Jones will win, as he has every since going professional.

Slayton remarked, “You can’t control what people say.” To be quite honest, ever since we arrived, there have been numerous attempts to get him, me, and other people out of here. That didn’t deter us in the past, and it won’t deter us now.

At the end of the day, he’s a good football player and a resilient person. I look forward to the day when he returns to full health and plays professional football somewhere, hopefully here.

In the interim, Slayton said it’s important for the team to keep its focus and play their hearts out in an attempt to notch a few more wins.

“We have to stay together as a unit and continue to fight,” Slayton said. “Even if the odds may not be in our favor, at the end of the day, our job is to go out there and play to the best of our ability, and that’s what we have to do.”
