Pop singer from the 1990s appears entirely unrecognizable thirty years after the top-charting single
U R the Best Thing and Shoot Me with Your Love were two of the hits. Things Can Only Get Better, the group’s 1994 hit, became the number one song.
As a member of a pop and dance group in the 1990s, this well-known star of the 1990s scored several top 40 hits as well as an enduring number-one hit.
U R the Best Thing and Shoot Me with Your Love were two of the hits. Things Can Only Get Better, the group’s 1994 hit, became the number one song. Peter Cunnah, the star in question, was
a member of D:Ream, a group that included Al Mackenzie.
And now, nearly 30 years after the song became the number one hit, Peter has a whole new appearance, complete with grey hair and an older face. He frequently posts adorable photos of him and Al hanging out before concerts and special events on D:Ream’s official Instagram page.
Peter and Al are still performing heavily after all these years. Together with artists like Peter Andre and the girl group Cleopatra, the pair will perform at Butlins in the near future.
Although the original lineup of D:Ream was amorphous, Peter remained the band’s lead vocalist. Brian Cox, who played keyboards in their live band, went on to become a television presenter. Things Can Only Get Better was the group’s first hit song to reach the charts. U R The Best Thing quickly followed as their second chart success.
They received nominations for Best Dance Act in 1994 (MTV Europe Music Awards) and Best Single (1995 BRIT Awards) in 1995. After 18 years of Conservative rule, their biggest hit was used by Tony Blair for his New Labour campaign, and it once again made it into the charts.
But Peter has conflicting emotions about the popular song. In 2022, he revealed to the Belfast Telegraph, “I have a love-hate relationship with that song now.” Yes, it’s been my meal ticket, but Tony Blair is essentially a war criminal on the loose. People have said that I’m somehow complicit in the tainted work I do, which I find extremely hurtful.
In 2008, the group reunited after Peter and Al happened to cross paths at random. 2009 saw the release of a single, and in 2011 they followed up with the In Memory Of album. After a decade, the group persisted in putting out music, rewarding their followers with the studio album Open Hearts Open Minds.
Regretfully, none of their new songs made it onto the charts. The only song to hit the top 100 was Things Can Only Get Better, which was reissued in 2014. When Peter wrote songs for A1 and the Steps, he had some hits. Even Chicane’s top 40 hit song Love on the Run featured his voice.
