The England Patriots lose to the Indianapolis Colts 10–6, but why is Mac Jones benched?
Carolina Hurricanes shut out the Tampa Bay Lightning at home.
NEW DELHI: Following an interception in the fourth quarter, New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was benched by coach Bill Belichick in favor of backup Bailey Zappe, raising doubts about Jones’ long-term status as the team’s starting quarterback. The unconventional move came just minutes before the Patriots had a chance to drive for a potentially game-winning touchdown, taking over at their 14-yard line.
Zappe’s next interception, though, crushed any hopes of a rally. Jones has been substituted out of three games this season, but this time the consequences were greater and it affected the team’s chances in a close game.
The Patriots are currently 2-8 and have a bye week coming up, so the quarterback situation is still unknown. “We’ll worry about next week next week,” Belichick said in response to a question regarding the position’s future. The game has just ended.” Jones acknowledged his recent performance setbacks, reaffirmed his commitment to the team’s success, and stated his resolve to recover.
Throughout the game, Jones encountered difficulties. During a frustrated drive in the third quarter, offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien chastised Jones. As he and Jones discussed plays, O’Brien seemed animated and offered suggestions for enhancements. Jones is still committed to improving his game and helping the team win the rest of the way, despite the setbacks.
