After Michigan football’s decisive victory over Penn State, head coach Jim Harbaugh dubbed the team “America’s Team.” On Monday, amidst the drama-filled 2023 season of Michigan football, Harbaugh made an intriguing request.
According to Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic, head coach Jim Harbaugh of the Michigan football team wants the Wolverines to be known as “America’s Team.”
According to Auerbach on X (formerly Twitter), “Jim Harbaugh just said that Michigan should be ‘America’s team’ because it has been through adversity and criticism and the naysayers.”
The Michigan football team has many detractors. Despite the difficulties, they have managed to achieve a 10-0 record. However, the success of the football program hasn’t dominated much of the conversation. Rather, most of the attention has gone to the sign-stealing scandal and names like Connor Stalions.
Though more for his recent suspension than the Wolverines’ perfect record or hopes of making the College Football Playoffs, Harbaugh has also drawn attention. In any case, Jim Harbaugh is obviously pleased with his group.

For Michigan football to have a chance at making the College Football Playoffs, they will need to keep up their strong performance. Jim Harbaugh can still attend practices even though he won’t be available for games during the regular season from this point on.
But in a way, the Wolverines might benefit from Harbaugh’s suspension. As the season progresses, the additional drive should continue to pay off, as it did on Saturday.
