A Message from the Lions to Fans Ahead of the 2023 Training Camp
Brad Holmes believes the Lions deserve the attention they have earned in the NFL.
Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes knows the team’s tremendous amount of NFL talk during the last six months.
While everyone in the organization is aware of the increased expectations for the 2023 season, there is still a sense that the buzz produced does not imply that the club has arrived in any way.
From head coach Dan Campbell to the whole coaching staff and down to the roster, the inability to make the postseason in 2022 is a stark reminder that there is much more work to be done, especially if the team intends to host a playoff game at Ford Field this year.
In an appearance on “The Season with Peter Schrager,” Holmes conveyed his message to fans ahead of training camp, which begins in about a week.
“Just continue to stick with this and just continue to know that we’re not done yet,” Holmes went on to say. “Just know that we’re going to work hard, keep the pedal to the metal, and stay aggressive.”
“I like how a lot of this is what they call buzz and hope.” I believe this fans and our city deserve it after everything they’ve been through. But, at the end of the day, Dan and I both realize we haven’t made the playoffs yet,” Holmes added. “So that’s what it needs to be. We must participate in the dance. We have complete faith and hope that we have the necessary structure in place to accomplish it.”
Regardless of the offseason hoopla, Detroit’s third-year general manager recognizes that the results must be shown on the football field, especially this season.
“We have to go out there and show it. “That’s how we’re wired,” Holmes explained. “We believe in accountability, earning it, and doing it the right way.” And that is exactly what Detroit is. It’s time to roll up your sleeves and get to work. There will be no excuses. And keep in mind that your football squad is doing the same thing. I believe there are numerous grounds for the hope and excitement. But, you know, I think the fans will be pretty pleased, you know, all bearing healthy and all that.”
