THE SEAGULLS PLAY THE ROBINS IN SOMERSET PREMIER CUP FINAL..

Weston head to Twerton Park, Bath this Wednesday, 2nd April as they play Frome Town in the final of the Somerset Premier Cup.

The Seagulls will be looking to get their name on the trophy for the fifth time after previous wins in 2011, 2012, 2018 and 2019, when Scott Bartlett’s side beat Taunton Town 2-1 in the final at the Optima Stadium.

In this season’s competition, Weston have beaten Keynsham Town 8-0, Yeovil Town 1-0, Taunton Town 2-1 again at the Optima before the semi-final victory at Clevedon Town two weeks ago. Late goals from Leighton Green and Jordan Bastin were enough to earn a 2-0 win at the Hand Stadium.

Wednesdays opponents, Frome Town, reached the final after beating Bristol side Mendip Broadwalk in the last four at Badgers Hill. Goals from James Ollis, Archie Ferris and Albie Hopkins sent The Robins through after their 3-0 victory.

As a club, we are focused on our league campaign, so have decided to field a mixed squad of academy and first-team players that need minutes.

Ahead of the game at Twerton Park, manager Scott Bartlett had this to say about the final:

I am looking forward to the game, but it’s been a challenge putting a squad together for this one. Both the Academy and first team are at full stretch due to circumstances beyond our control.

“We will be a mixed squad but as always that gives opportunities for some younger players and some valuable minutes for the likes of Waitey, Jamie, Pedro, Jenks etc.

“Given the injury issues we have and the big games we both have this weekend, ourselves and Frome requested some flexibility in moving this fixture. It would have been sensible, but the Somerset FA have denied our requests. We respect their decision, however It’s a bit disappointing given the flexibility afforded in previous seasons.

“Although the situation isn’t ideal, we will be well prepared and fully focused on the game.”
