I’m a depressed Mets fan right now.

And you too, I’m sure of it. The game last night was sobering. We were so full of hope. Pitcher Noah Syndergaard had a fantastic game. I entered the ninth inning with the score tied at zero. The guy with more than 50 saves, our closer, was about to enter. We are capable of this. The Mets were still very much in the game.

Then again, they didn’t.

The Mets were done after Conor Gillaspie hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning.

As Mets supporters began to leave the stadium, I was really depressed.

We thought that this would be the year. We needed to attend to unresolved matters. After overcoming so many setbacks, were we to lose the Wild Card game? That is not logical.

How did this come about?

In any case, Madison Bumgarner is an outstanding pitcher. However, what’s the deal? Last night, Noah Syndergaard was equally amazing.

It was the Mets who failed to score. There were no Asdrubal Cabrera bombs in our arsenal. or the bombs of Yoenis Cespedes. or any explosives, really.

There was the defense. The bats simply never materialized.

It’s awful. It hurts to lose. That cannot be disputed. This one is going to hurt until the next season, probably.

However, what’s the deal? The Mets advanced to the Wild Card round in spite of all the challenges. Yes, at this moment I am a very depressed Mets fan. I am, however, also proud. Even though they didn’t perform well last night (aside from Syndergaard’s incredible catch and Curtis Granderson’s catch), I’m proud of what they overcome.
