Aston Villa want ‘fast-track deal’ to sign player – Keen to secure arrival quickly
Joan García has been linked to multiple Premier League clubs since Arsenal tried to sign him last summer. The Espanyol goalkeeper has made more saves than any other goalkeeper in La Liga this season, and the Spanish media have been repeatedly raving about how good he is already and how good the 23-year-old could become.
A few days ago, Manchester United were said to have contacted García’s entourage to put some kind of personal offer forward. Any actual transfer would likely be via the player’s clause which stands at €25-30m.
Aston Villa have also been dragged in, which feels a bit odd given they already have Emi Martinez. The Argentina hero has a contract lasting until June 2029 and there doesn’t appear to be anyone ready to pay the kind of money Aston Villa would want.
Nevertheless, Cadena Ser report Unai Emery’s side want a ‘fast-track deal’ to sign the Spaniard from Espanyol. It’s stated Aston Villa are ready to pay the player’s release clause.
Of course, it all feels very questionable given the existence of Emi Martinez.
Aston Villa loanee delivers cryptic response when asked about future transfer
Aston Villa midfielder Leander Dendoncker has a year left on his contract at Villa Park but it’s uncertain where he’ll be from the summer
Aston Villa midfielder Leander Dendoncker didn’t lean one way or the other when he was quizzed about what the future holds beyond the end of this season, instead cryptically indicating that he himself isn’t sure what lies in store this summer.
Frozen out at Villa and permitted to leave the club last summer, Dendoncker, 30, has spent this season back in his native Belgium with Anderlecht, where he progressed through the academy and into the first team before leaving for England and Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018 following their promotion back to the Premier League.
Dendoncker was given the captaincy upon his return to Anderlecht, although that was eventually withdrawn in order to relieve Dendoncker of the responsibility and to concentrate on his level of performance.
The midfielder has continued to be regularly involved this term, playing 38 games in all competitions to date – including eight times in the Europa League – and most recently he has scored in home and away meetings with Gent in the Jupiler Pro League Champions’ Play-Offs – Dendoncker netted the only goal in the 1-0 win away at Gent on Sunday evening.
They’ll play Club Brugge in the Belgian Cup final next weekend and there is a chance that Dendoncker can return to Birmingham this summer with some silverware – if indeed that where his first pitstop is this summer.
Unai Emery has been clear previously on where he stands with players and, while Dendoncker was briefly included in the matchday squad in the period just after the Spaniard had been appointed by Villa in 2022/23, it became apparent that Dendoncker’s opportunities were going to be limited and he was loaned to Napoli last year, which ultimately proved to be a miserable experience.
