Man Utd Eyeing 'Cheap' Deal to Sign Coventry's Ben Sheaf

‘He scores goals’ – Coventry City player praised by Frank Lampard ahead of Hull City trip…

Coventry City winger Jamie Paterson is a player who ‘scores goals’ at Championship level, his manager Frank Lampard has said.
Coventry City signed the attacker in February on a free transfer. He penned a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Paterson, 33, scored the winner for the Sky Blues in their 1-0 win at home to Portsmouth last time out. They are back in action this evening away at Hull City.

Lampard has said, as per a report by CoventryLive: “I managed against Pato when I was at Derby and he was playing for Bristol City, and I remember analysing him and worrying about their wingers on both sides, and Pato was sharp. And when the opportunity came I looked at his record and spoke to a couple of people who had worked with him and it was all glowing.

“And his record at this level, he scores goals, and has done throughout his career so that made it an easy one. And then the Coventry link and how he feels about the club was the icing on the cake, I guess.”

He then went on to have spells with the likes of Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield Town, Derby County, Bristol City and Swansea City.

Paterson spent three years with the latter in Wales and scored 17 goals in 107 outings before moving over to America in 2024 to join Charlotte.

He didn’t play much in MLS though and featured on only four occasions for Dean Smith’s side before heading back home to England with Coventry City.

What now for Coventry City?
Coventry City sat back and watched the rest of their play-off rivals in action over the weekend.

They are sat in 6th place in the table and are inside the top six along with Sheffield United, Sunderland and Bristol City.

Lampard’s men are two points above West Brom, Middlesbrough and Millwall with five matches left to play.
