Wrexham set to make transfer move for West Ham veteran – Leeds United also lurking..

Wrexham are keen to add veteran defender Aaron Cresswell to their ranks this summer, but face some competition from Premier League newcomers Leeds United.

The 35-year-old said an emotional goodbye to West Ham United on Sunday afternoon, bidding farewell to the Hammers after 11 years of service and over 300 appearances for the London club.

However, it seems that Cresswell will be continuing his playing career elsewhere after departing the London Stadium at the end of his contract next month.

Journalist Alan Nixon has reported that Championship newcomers Wrexham are keen to land the defender’s signature this summer, but will face competition from Premier League side Leeds United.

The Red Dragons have already been linked with some top-flight stalwarts such as Jamie Vardy and Tom Cairney, and are reportedly keen to put together an attractive package for Cresswell to oust Leeds.

The former England full-back is very much in the twilight of his career, having found a home at West Ham and helped them achieve European glory two years ago.

The summer of 2025 will mark the start of a new chapter for Cresswell, and he won’t be short of options for that new chapter, according to the latest reports.

Nixon reported on Sunday that Wrexham want to offer the veteran left-back a contract ahead of their Championship challenge next season. Cresswell is said to be keen to carry on playing, and Phil Parkinson’s side could offer him exactly what he wants.

However, the journalist also reported that Leeds are another club keen on the defender’s services, but would see him as more of a squad player rather than a starter.

Cresswell is based in Merseyside and reportedly could be interested in joining the North Wales outfit, as location and game time could give the 35-year-old a more attractive package than the Yorkshire side.

Leeds could keep Cresswell in the Premier League, but if it’s minutes that he’s after, a move to Wrexham would likely make more sense.

As mentioned, Cresswell is just the latest name in an ever-growing list of Premier League veterans who’ve been linked with a move to The Racecourse Ground this summer, and it’s not even June yet.

The Hollywood side left League One shocked by exceeding expectations and securing back-to-back-to-back promotions, and could well look to add a fourth consecutive promotion to that tally next season.

The Red Dragons will have an excellent pull given their Hollywood status and ambitious project, offering plenty of former Premier League stars a great place to wind down their career.

It’s going to be very interesting to see who Wrexham bring in this summer, and how many of their new signings will be household names in English football, boasting a plethora of Premier League experience.
