Frank Lampard has made two changes to his Coventry City side who go in search of another big three points towards securing their place in the play-offs, with bottom club Plymouth Argyle standing in their way at today’s game at Home Park.
The Sky Blues boss has freshened his team up with Jamie Allen and Jake Bidwell returning to the starting line-up on a day when Norman Bassette is out, presumed injured, but Josh Eccles returns to the matchday 20 from injury.
Brad Collins is once again in goal behind a back four that sees Joel Latibeaudiere continue to deputise for the injured Bobby Thomas alongside Liam Kitching, while Milan van Ewijk is deployed at right-back and Bidwell comes in as a straight swap at left-back for Jay Dasilva, who drops to the bench.
Skipper Ben Sheaf also takes a rest among the subs, replaced by Allen alongside Matt Grimes in the deeper midfield roles while Jack Rudoni is expected to fill the number ten role further forward with Tatsuhiro Sakamoto on the right and Haji Wright on the left. That leaves Ellis Simms to continue to lead the line in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Frank Lampard fumes after Plymouth’s chief tormentor stays on the pitch against Coventry City.

Frank Lampard admitted that relegation battling Plymouth Argyle deserved to beat his Coventry City side but insisted the home side’s chief tormentor, Mustapha Bundu, should have been sent off before he struck with two goals and an assist in the 3-1 defeat at Home Park.
Forward Bundu went in late on Jamie Allen in the 28th minute, catching the midfielder’s leg and then shoving him in the face to leave the Sky Blues player on the deck, sparking a melee as his team-mates reacted angrily to the aggressive challenge.
Bundu went on to score 12 minutes later and set up Ryan Hardie three minutes after that before Haji Wright reduced the deficit with a tap-in before the break.
The 28-year-old went on to score the third for the Pilgrims just after the hour to secure the full three points from his man-of-the-match display for Miron Muslic’s team who remain bottom of the league. City, meanwhile, remain in sixth place, three points clear of nearest challenges Middlesbrough and Millwall.
“It was a difficult afternoon and disappointing result, clearly,” said Lampard, speaking after the 3-1 defeat which was littered with defensive errors.
“This was a game that was completely dominated by the mistakes that we’re all aware of, or types of goals they are going to score against you.
“We knew we’d have a lot of the ball and it’s the mistakes that lead to transitions and set-pieces, so if you are short on those on the day, they are a team of giants, of big boys and you know what’s coming with every goal kick, every throw-in and every set-piece that’s coming in. And you have to deal with that and the be more dynamic to break the low block, which we were not at that level today.”
