Bannan Smith and more: The Sheffield Wednesday players who could play their last game for the club against Watford..

Sheffield Wednesday have nothing to play for going into the final game of the season against Watford, but there could be a fair few farewells.
Sheffield Wednesday haven’t been a truly stable club for a while. The main cause of this is nearly always SWFC owner and chairman Dejphon Chansiri, but there is all sorts rumbling on behind the scenes at Hillsborough.

It’s a shame, too. This season has been one of welcome progress on the pitch with the Owls sat comfortably in mid-table after last season’s relegation scrap, even emerging as potential play-off outsiders earlier this campaign.

However, with takeover rumours doing the rounds and constant questions over Danny Rohl’s future, Sheffield Wednesday have a whole host of first-team players approaching the end of their contracts.

It means the final day clash with Watford could see many play their last games for SWFC. Or, some may have already made their last outing in blue and white stripes…

The out-of-contract players set to be involved vs Watford
Of the players nearing the end of their contracts, none as as big a name as Sheffield Wednesday captain and modern day legend Barry Bannan. The 35-year-old has been relaxed over his future having grown familiar with the contract processes at Hillsborough but after 10 years and 446 appearances, there is a chance this weekend ends up being his last bow.

Josh Windass is another whose future remains uncertain. Speculation has been rife over his next move as his deal winds down and after 12 gals and five assists this season, he will not be short of options away from SWFC even if they hope to retain his services.

Loyal servants and League One promotion-winners Michael Ihiekwe, Michael Smith and Callum Paterson have had important roles to play this season but they too have deals running down and could play for the last time this weekend.

Full-backs Marvin Johnson and Pol Valentin are also out of contract. However, with stronger options on the books ahead of both, it could be that they make amicable exits this summer.

The out-of-contract players who could be absent for Sheffield Wednesday
As seen above, the majority of Sheffield Wednesday players with expiring deals could have the opportunity to make one last appearance before the summer. However, there are a couple of doubts.

Stuart Armstrong only signed a short-term deal when arriving in the winter transfer window and he is an injury doubt for the Watford trip. There will be hope among many that he can feature on Saturday and sign new terms though having made a good impression.

The same goes for talented winger Anthony Musaba. As of yesterday, he had not trained all week in anticipation of his now born first child and SWFC boss Rohl confirmed a decision would be made over his involvement.

The Star has said there are options to extend the contracts of some Sheffield Wednesday players, but it remains to be seen exactly who. There are also players such as the long-serving Liam Palmer and Dominic Iorfa, whose contract expiry dates are undisclosed.
