Ipswich Town made shock January attempt for player – Manager decision proved key..
West Ham United were linked with a move for Napoli’s Giacomo Raspadori in the January transfer window and it has now emerged that Ipswich Town also attempted to land the player.
The versatile player scored a key goal for the Naples club against Lecce at the weekend and the Italian press has taken a closer look at Raspadori, who could have left Napoli some months ago.
TuttoSport, as relayed by CN24, have stated that the Italy international asked to leave in January.
Ipswich Town ‘had tried’ to sign him and so had West Ham. Roma, Juventus and Torino also came forward for him.
The outlet state that while Napoli erected a wall to make sure the player started, Antonio Conte also played a key role in ‘loudly’ making his decision heard about the potential transfer.
CN24 further relay information from TuttoSport, revealing that Ipswich Town and West Ham were dealt a blow when Conte was clear about his stance on Raspadori.
He informed Napoli that – ‘Raspadori is staying here’, closing down the possibility of an exit.
The 25-year-old has been more involved in the first-team since February and has started six league games.
This shows that the decision to not let him join Ipswich Town or West Ham was a valid one, with the Partenopei currently at the top of the table in Serie A.
Newcastle United condemns ex-Sunderland man to relegation 245 days after £15m move..
The former Sunderland man was relegated to the Championship by Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon
Jack Clarke’s return to the Championship with Ipswich Town has now been confirmed after leaving Sunderland last summer.
Ipswich Town’s relegation from the Premier League at the first time of asking was cemented on Saturday following a 3-0 loss to Newcastle United. That means Clarke suffers relegation just 245 days after leaving Sunderland to join the Tractor Boys in a £15million move.
Heading into the match at St James’ Park, Ipswich needed a victory and for West Ham United to be beaten by Brighton & Hove Albion to keep their slim survival hopes alive. While West Ham did suffer defeat, Ipswich were unable to capitalise, playing much of the match with 10 men after Ben Johnson was sent off in the first half.
The result leaves Ipswich 15 points adrift of 17th-placed West Ham with only 12 points left to play for, confirming they cannot climb out of the bottom three. Ipswich became the third and final club relegated from the 2024-25 Premier League season, following Southampton and Leicester City, and will return to the Championship next term.
