Leicester City clash against Manchester United for the fourth time this season on Sunday, and Jamie Vardy has a chance to break one incredible Premier League record.
The only records the Foxes are breaking at the moment are negative. In their last fixture at the King Power Stadium, Leicester lost 4-0 to Brentford and became the first side in Premier League history to lose six in a row without scoring in each fixture and conceding at least twice.
In the following matches, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men have tasted defeat against West Ham and Chelsea without finding the net.
Although Leicester were much improved against Chelsea, it was the same old story, as a second-half Marc Cucurella strike handed the visitors their 12th league defeat in 13 matches.
Ahead of their home clash against Manchester United, City are marooned in the relegation zone by six points, and perhaps only one man can drag them out of it.
Jamie Vardy eyeing Ryan Giggs’ Premier League record
At the age of 38, Jamie Vardy is still the man Leicester rely on to score goals. Unfortunately, they’ve dried up for him in recent months, finding the net just once in his previous 12 league matches.
Coincidentally, with Vardy struggling to showcase his usual clinical edge, the Foxes have also lacked ruthlessness in front of goal.
But perhaps this weekend is when the Englishman can rise to the occasion and pile further misery onto Man United, who are loitering down in 14th position.
In 18 matches against the Red Devils, Leicester’s talisman has plundered six goals, including the famous strike that saw Vardy break Van Nistelrooy’s record in 2016.
Speaking of history, Vardy can now break a Premier League record set by Ryan Giggs. The Welshman became the oldest player to score and assist in a single game against Fulham at the age of 38 years and 22 days in December 2011.
Vardy is currently the second-oldest to achieve that feat, doing so in Leicester’s 2-2 draw against Brighton in December. However, he’s now old enough to break the record, and he’d love to somehow do it this weekend.
Ryan Giggs praised Jamie Vardy in 2016
Following the infamous 2015/16 campaign, in which Leicester won the Premier League title, Giggs praised Vardy after being selected for the England squad.
The clinical Leicester forward had the likes of Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney to battle with for a place in the side, but the Manchester United legend praised his rise towards national recognition.

“England will find it very difficult to name their number one side, you see the depth in their forwards – Rooney, Kane, Vardy, Welbeck. England have more depth but Wales have got the better team spirit,” Giggs said via Wales Online, ahead of their clash at Euro 2016.
He added: “The likes of Delle Alli and Ross Barkley, they’re very talented players who have had really good season. Jamie Vardy as well, he’s been brilliant. A year ago you wouldn’t have expected some of these players to be in the squad so it’s going to be really difficult to choose.”
Giggs’ praise for Vardy on the international stage was justified as the Leicester hitman scored in a 2-1 against Wales at Euro 2016, with Daniel Sturridge netting a 91st-minute winner.
