‘Like a man possessed’ – Luton Town ace praised by EFL pundit after recent form
Luton Town ace Thelo Aasgaard was like a ‘man possessed’ against Coventry City last time out, EFL pundit George Elek has said.
Luton Town won 1-0 against the Sky Blues with Shandon Baptiste scoring a dramatic late winner. LTFC also saw Liam Walsh sent off in the game.
The Hatters are now sat in 21st place in the table with only one fixture left to play. They are above Hull City in 22nd by a point.
Speaking on the Not The Top 20 Podcast on YouTube, Elek has said: “Aasgaard in particular was like a man possessed. He is just looking so good. I questioned whether or not his arrival at Luton was the kind of arrival you’d want in the position they are in and the same with (Matt) Bloomfield, and given their position worsened after January you could say there was some credence to that.
“Right now, Aasgaard looks like one of the best players or maybe the key player in this whole relegation scrap, the quality player in it.”
Luton Town’s fate heading into the final day is in their own hands. They take on West Brom at The Hawthorns knowing a win will keep them up.
Luton Town’s Thelo Aasgaard catching the eye
Luton Town landed Aasgaard in the January transfer window. LTFC brought him in to boost their ranks.
The Norway international, who has one cap to his name, has settled in well to life at Kenilworth Road. He has made 16 appearances and has scored two goals.
Prior to his move to Bedfordshire, he impressed in League One with Wigan Athletic. He played 164 matches for the Latics and found the net on 32 occasions, 12 of which came during the first half of this campaign.
Aasgaard was on the books at Liverpool as a youngster. He spent six years with the Reds before moving on.
Will Luton Town stay up?
Luton Town have put themselves into a great position after their victory over Coventry City. LTFC can focus on themselves as they look to beat West Brom.
It has been a tough term for the Hatters and relegation wouldn’t be ideal. They were in the Premier League last year.
They finished in the bottom three along with Burnley and Sheffield United. Rob Edwards was sacked in January after a poor run of form.
Matt Bloomfield subsequently came in and it took him a while to get results. Things appear to have clicked now though for the ex-Wycombe Wanderers man.
‘West Brom on the beach’ – Luton Town relegation state of play ahead of Championship D-Day
Luton Town are in a five-team scrap with Stoke City to stay in the Championship on the final day and might need to win at West Bromwich Albion to survive
Two teams are doomed and five more are fighting to avoid being the third trapped in the Championship drop zone when the full-time whistles blow on the final day of the season.
Here we zone in on Luton Town, currently fourth from bottom and trying to avoid successive relegations. They head to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday (12.30pm). You can view the story of Hull City’s season here while Preston North End, Derby County and Stoke City are also in the battle.
Luton’s against-the-odds promotion to the Premier League in 2023 was followed by relegation by six points 12 months later – and then only because fourth-from-bottom Nottingham Forest had been deducted four points
