Latest on Leicester City interest in Sheffield Wednesday boss amid Ruud van Nistelrooy revelation..
Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is a priority target for Leicester City with Ruud van Nistelrooy set to exit, as per Sky Sports.
Sheffield Wednesday are shrouded by frustrating uncertainty after a positive 2024/25 season. It was another turbulent year for SWFC but on the pitch, they made welcome strides forward.
Hailed for his role in leading the Owls to a mid-table finish after last year’s relegation fight has been Danny Rohl. The German turned their 2023/24 campaign around and managed to build on it with Wednesday finishing 12th.

Rohl has emerged as one of the game’s top rated young coaches, but with that comes interest from elsewhere. Numerous other clubs have been linked and the 36-year-old is expected to depart Hillsborough.
Among those keen on the Sheffield Wednesday boss has been Leicester City, and Sky Sports has issued a new update on the Foxes’ managerial situation.
They report that Dutch boss Ruud van Nistelrooy is expected to leave the club after the end of the season with talks set to begin next week. Until he has departed though, the relegated club will not progress their new manager search out of respect.
However, they have two priority targets: Russell Martin, and SWFC boss Rohl.

The cons of a Championship switch
Sheffield Wednesday wouldn’t lose Rohl at all in an ideal world, but with a departure seemingly on the cards, they may be holding out hope that he doesn’t head to a Championship rival.

Not only would it sting to see him in an opposing dugout, but the German’s release clause reduces by 50% if he heads to a Championship club rather than a Premier League one. It is not said if this goes for all top flight leagues though with Bundesliga sides also said keen on Rohl.

It would mean that not only would SWFC have to deal with the pain of coming up against their former boss, but they would gain less financially from a move too.
Contingency planning a must at Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday haven’t really been a club for forward planning under the lead of Dejphon Chansiri. Questions have been asked for some time over the running of the club, but recent managerial departures have been met with fairly swift appointments in recent years.

When Darren Moore left in the summer of 2023, he was replaced by Xisco Munoz a little over two weeks later. After the Spaniard’s exit, Rohl arrived nine days later.
If the current boss is to move on, Chansiri will have to make sure a suitable replacement is lined up to come in soon after. They have time on their side considering the campaign is now done, but the sooner a new boss can come in, the quicker they can get to work with the squad and look for new signings.
