Vitor Pereira ominously shares why Tommy Doyle and Goncalo Guedes didn’t make Wolves squad vs Tottenham..

Wolves beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 to go 16th in the Premier League table – but there were no places in the matchday squad for Tommy Doyle or Goncalo Guedes.

Wolves came out on top at Molineux, taking advantage of some calamitous Spurs defending throughout the game.

Matheus Cunha made a goalscoring return for Wolves after serving his four-game suspension, firing in the fourth late on for the hosts after Spurs had threatened to stage a comeback.

It was a fourth win in a row for Wolves, and there were again scenes of jubilation at the end as the Molineux crowd serenaded Vitor Pereira and the players.

But it was perhaps not the happiest of afternoons for Goncalo Guedes and Tommy Doyle, who were both not in Wolves’ matchday squad.

After the game, Pereira revealed the reasons for the pair’s absences.

Wolves don’t have too many injuries at the moment, and Cunha is no longer suspended.

That means Pereira is able to name really strong matchday squads at the moment.

And while that is the case, there will likely be some interesting omissions on a weekly basis.

Today, fans speculated about the absences of Tommy Doyle and Goncalo Guedes as the team news filtered through before the game.

VP: Doyle & Guedes omissions were both tactical

Neither player is injured, and according to Pereira in his post-match press conference (via Nathan Judah), they were both left out as a ‘tactical decision’.

He said: “I need to see competition in training – I need to see levels. Next game I will see.”

Sam Johnstone also missed out on Wolves’ squad today, but that was due to groin and hip injuries according to Nathan Judah.

Doyle and Guedes could both leave Wolves
So neither player was injured today, and it has simply come down to other players being more deserving of their selections in the squad.

Pereira has not given the impression he rates Doyle, and then went out and signing Marshall Munetsi in the last transfer window.

Doyle has Championship interest and at this point, it’s hard to see him still being a Wolves player next term.

And Guedes is another player who could leave, with Villarreal said to be interested in the player.

Guedes actually started the season surprisingly well, and has made 10 goal contributions. But after a recent injury, he’s struggled and now, clearly, Pereira doesn’t feel he’s doing enough.

The manager’s snub for both players should be a wake up call, if they do have ambitions of being successful with Wolves.
