Why commit Ohio State 2025 quarterback Tavien St. Clair is excited to collaborate with Bill O’Brien.
Columbus, Ohio — The addition of Bill O’Brien to Ohio State’s offensive staff was the kind of move that supporters had long yearned for.
O’Brien’s appointment as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach, and play-caller will allow head coach Ryan Day to assume more of a “CEO” role and relieve him of more daily responsibilities.
Additionally, Ohio State gains in O’Brien a player with a wealth of offensive line experience who has worked under illustrious coaches in both the NFL and college. And that is a huge plus for Tavien St. Clair, a 2025 four-star quarterback commit.
St. Clair stated this week, “I knew he had a really good track record coaching quarterbacks prior to meeting him.” “He has a great offensive mind and is an excellent offensive coach. However, it was absolutely mind-blowing when I finally got to meet him and he revealed to me the teams, head coaches, and individuals he had really coached. You mention the greats, such as Nick Saban and Bill Belichick. And he was allowed to participate—it was incredible.
Under Belichick, O’Brien served as the Patriots’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during the previous campaign. Additionally, he played for the Patriots from 2007 to 2011. In addition, he served as Saban’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Alabama in 2021 and 2022, mentoring Bryce Young, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner.
In less than a year, St. Clair, an Ohio native who is ranked No. 4 among quarterbacks in the class and No. 56 overall in the 247Sports composite rankings, will enter what could be a loaded quarterback room.
Right now, it’s home to five-star freshmen Air Noland and Julian Sayin, as well as four-star quarterbacks Devin Brown and Lincoln Kienholz. Though it seems improbable, all could be on the roster when St. Clair travels to Columbus in the upcoming season.
And he is thrilled about the opportunity to collaborate with O’Brien when he does.
“It’s very significant because Ohio State has produced the best quarterbacks in the last 15 years,” St. Clair remarked. It was crucial for them to acquire a new player who could help Ohio State’s quarterbacks, including me. I believe they have the right person for the job.
