Raiders Are Playing in Star QB’s “Dream World”: Report
It doesn’t seem like the Las Vegas Raiders will be able to select LSU’s Jayden Daniels in the first round. Because of his relationship to head coach Antonio Pierce, the team has been pursuing the quarterback this offseason; however, indications suggest that the Washington Commanders will select him at No. 2.
The Raiders attempted to contact the Commanders regarding a potential trade but were denied access. Daniels will be disappointed to hear that news. The quarterback wants to be in Las Vegas, but he won’t turn down the opportunity to play for the Commanders, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
As stated by league sources, “Since the visit [with the Commanders], Daniels has told people in his ‘dream world’ he could play under Kevin O’Connell in Minnesota or reunite with Las Vegas Raiders coach Antonio Pierce, who was an assistant coach at Arizona State during Daniels’ time with the Sun Devils,” Russini wrote in a column on April 24. The consensus in the league is that Daniels and the Commanders will overcome this obstacle, and he is anticipated to be the team’s quarterback in the future. However, keep an eye out for the Commanders to reenter the first round in order to select a player of starting caliber, perhaps using one or more of their second-day picks. Peters refers to it as “optionality.”
Daniels is not likely to be the latest player to refuse to play for the team that drafted them; these situations are extremely rare. It’s very likely that the Raiders will need to consider other options.
Washington Commanders’ Jayden Daniels Is Willing to Participate
Although he is open to playing for other teams, Jayden Daniels would prefer to play for the Raiders. He recently made the decision to set the record straight and express his willingness to play in Washington.
During his media appearance on April 24, Daniels remarked, “I’m blessed to go wherever I’m called.” “I will be blessed
For Washington, a team that is in dire need of a quarterback, this is good news. In many other years, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner might have been the first choice. Despite having new ownership, the Commanders have been among the NFL’s worst teams for a number of years. Josh Harris has to prove to Daniels that he is a better option than Dan Snyder. and give my all to whoever calls my phone when the commissioner gets up and says my name.”
It’s unclear if the Raiders would be willing to trade up for another quarterback, even though they won’t be getting Jayden Daniels. Dianna Russini claims that the group has made an effort to advance.
“Remember that new general manager Tom Telesco hasn’t had a track record of trading up in drafts. The Raiders have made calls to teams that seem open for business, including the Commanders,” Russini wrote. “Many teams have been making fun of the Raiders for selecting [Michael] Penix at No. 13 and saying that Las Vegas needs a quarterback.”
Whether the Raiders like J.J. McCarthy or Drake Maye enough to advance is still up in the air. If not, they might remain at No. 13 and take Michael Penix Jr. of Washington into consideration. The group could
