Crystal Palace turn to relegated pair Alex McCarthy and Daniel Iversen to find a new back-up goalkeeper as Vicente Guaita REFUSES to play
Crystal Palace have shown an interest in Southampton‘s Alex McCarthy and Leicester City‘s Daniel Iversen as they look to bolster their goalkeeping options.
Roy Hodgson is aiming to replace Vicente Guaita who has refused to play for them.
Hodgson said: ‘Guaita is disenchanted with the club. So he has made it clear that he would like to move on and he’s refusing to play. It’s up to the club to decide, not him.’
The Spanish ‘keeper only played one of Palace’s final 12 Premier League games last season as an injury coincided with Sam Johnstone taking his place as first-choice between the sticks.
Guaita signed on a free transfer in the summer of 2018 and established himself as a fans’ favourite at Selhurst Park, winning the Supporters’ Player of the Year in 2021.
However, with his place in Hodgson’s team no longer guaranteed, the 36-year-old has been linked with a return to former club Getafe in LaLiga.
McCarthy and Iversen are seen as attainable replacements to act as back-up for Johnstone after neither featured for their respective Championship clubs on the opening weekend of the season.
Palace begin their Premier League campaign with a trip to Bramall Lane to take on newly-promoted Sheffield United on Saturday, August 12.

Sources: Crystal Palace reach full agreement to sign Chelsea star Lewis Hall
Crystal Palace are set to sign Lewis Hall on a season-long loan from Chelsea after all details were agreed, sources have told Football Insider.
There is not expected to be an option to buy involved in the deal as Chelsea plan to offer the 18-year-old a new deal upon his return to his parent club.
Hall is currently on a contract that runs until 2026 and, despite the club considering a renewal this summer, those talks have been paused until next year.
The full-back is awaiting confirmation of legal documents being signed off before heading across London for medical checks and final sign-offs.
The west Londoners have deemed Palace the best place for his development following Conor Gallagher’s immensely impressive loan spell there two seasons ago.
The Eagles have had a quiet transfer window so far but hope to add at least three more players before the the window closes on the 2nd of September.
The left back position at Chelsea is highly contested with Marco Cucurella, Ben Chilwell and Ian Maatsen all vying for a starting spot, which made a loan option for Hall necessary.
Hall will be the latest player top leave Stamford Bridge this season following the likes of Ngolo Kante, Edouard Mendy and Matteo Kovacic, who all left the club this summer.
The youngster has made 12 first team appearances for Chelsea, grabbing a single assist. He has been capped at every level of the England youth system, most recently winning his third cap for the Under-19s

Crystal Palace in talks over loan deal with an obligation to buy for £24million for Bayer Leverkusen star Odilon Kossounou as negotiations continue for Chelsea’s Lewis Hall
Crystal Palace are in talks over an initial loan deal for Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Odilon Kossounou.
Palace want a centre-back amid interest from Newcastle United in Joachim Andersen while Marc Guehi is also coveted.
Palace are trying to negotiate a loan with obligation to buy around £24million for Kossounou.
The defender is highly rated in the Bundesliga and would be a welcome addition to Palace’s defensive options this summer.
They are also continuing talks with Chelsea over a loan deal for Lewis Hall.
Hall is valued highly at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea keen to tie him down to a contract extension as they look to send him out on loan.
Naturally a midfielder, Hall has been utilised as a left-back during his time with the first team at Chelsea and could offer versatility for the Eagles.
Roy Hodgson’s side have already completed the signing of Matheus Franca from Flamengo for £17m plus add-ons, including £4m should he win the Ballon D’Or.
With a lack of incomings so far in the transfer window, Palace are increasing their efforts to add to the first team squad at Selhurst Park.

Journalist drops positive eight word update on the future of Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise
Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise is attracting a fair bit of interest and journalist Alan Nixon has shared a positive update on his future.
Despite the Crystal Palace player being injured, the Frenchman has reportedly attracted interest from two top Premier League clubs.
Apparently, Manchester City and Chelsea are interested in him and he has a £35million release clause. Despite this news, Alan Nixon believes Olise could still be at the club for this season.
With Wilfried Zaha not at the club anymore, keeping other talent like Olise is essential if Palace want to battle for a top half finish next season.
Journalist optimistic Crystal Palace can keep Olise this summer
Palace fans will be over the moon to see that a journalist has come out with a positive transfer update on Michael Olise.
Journalist Nixon tweeted the latest on Olise. He said: “It’s complicated and I don’t think he leaves” when he was asked by a fan for more information on the release clause.
It is no doubt a very positive bit of news from Nixon for Palace fans. Not only does the journalist think he will stay this summer, he also believes the release clause is more complicated than expected.
Palace fans will no doubt feel the reported £35m release clause is cheap for the exciting 21 year-old who is no doubt a top talent.
Olise managed 11 assists in the Premier League last season. This was the fourth most in the division and is a great tally for such a young player.
His potential is there for all to see and it will be a huge boost for Palace and their top half ambitions if he were to stay at the club past the summer.
