Striker makes bold claim after leaving Hull City for League Two Bradford City
The frontman was released by the Tigers at the end of the season but will remain in Yorkshire
Striker Tyler Smith has completed a move to Bradford City following his release by Championship outfit Hull City at the end of the campaign, joining the biggest club in League Two, he says.
Smith, who was a summer 2021 signing from Sheffield United, spent the second half of the season on loan at Oxford United after Tigers boss Liam Rosenior sanctioned his departure, and will now link up with the League Two side having rejected offers from elsewhere.
The 24-year-old has penned a three-year deal at Valley Parade and will be in line to face his former club when City visit Bradford for a pre-season friendly on July 22, alongside ex-Tigers skipper Richie Smallwood.
Last season saw Smith’s campaign hit by injury, with the frontman making just 14 Championship appearances scoring three goals, two of which came in the 4-1 rout at Wigan Athletic on January 2, with his last outing coming in the 3-0 win over QPR on January 28 before his move to the Kassam Stadium.
“I am delighted to get the deal done. I just cannot wait to start,” Sheffield-born Smith told the Bantams’ website after completing his move. “There has been work behind the scenes for a while now, but it is nice to get it done early on, so I can get to work.
“I am an energetic and hard-working striker, who likes to make runs in behind, and play off the shoulder. I have got experience in the Championship, and I can bring that here, where hopefully I can contribute to goals.
“This is a massive club, the biggest in the division, and I am looking forward to hopefully helping the boys go one better this season and get promoted.”
Bantams boss Mark Hughes, meanwhile, revealed his delight at signing Smith, a player, according to the Welshman, he has been tracking for a period of time.
“Tyler is a player we have held an interest in for a long period of time, so we are delighted to be able to welcome him to the club,” Hughes explained. “He is a pacy striker with the ability to run in behind and stretch defences, as well as obviously possessing a clear goal threat.
“He has experience of playing at a high level, having spent the past two years in the Championship with Hull City, and will bring something a little different to our forward line.
“We are looking forward to having Tyler with us as we begin pre-season training this week, and I am sure you will join me in wishing him a warm welcome.”
