Packers visiting the top 2024 NFL Draft in search of answers regarding injuries
Prior to the draft, there are injury concerns regarding Green Bay’s two highest-ranked visits thus far.
Before selecting more than 250 players in April, NFL teams are permitted to have 30 pre-draft visits with draft prospects during the offseason. Notably, as they stop using these visits as undrafted free-agent recruiting, the Green Bay Packers have recently revealed their hand by frequently bringing in players who they ultimately drafted. This is partly because the signing bonus costs of UDFAs are on the rise.
However, if you’re trying to determine the Packers’ first-round selection, you should know that only two players—whom Green Bay has reportedly added—are thought to be consensus first-round picks: Amarius Mims of Georgia, a tackle, and Kool-Aid McKinstry of Alabama, a cornerback
Mims, who made his debut as a full-time starter in 2023, was limited to seven games with the Bulldogs last season, making six starts. He suffered a high ankle sprain that required in-season tight rope surgery, which kept him out of the game for a significant chunk of Georgia’s middle stretch. Mims also sustained an injury in the SEC Championship Game and left the game due to an unspecified ailment, which prevented him from playing in the Orange Bowl bowl game against Florida State. During a 40-yard dash at the combine, Mims strained his hamstring, forcing him to withdraw from the competition. At Georgia’s pro day, Mims was unable to work out because of the same hamstring injury.
During the combine’s medical examinations, McKinstry’s right foot was found to have a Jones fracture. This basically indicates that the cornerback’s small toe is stabilized by a base-level stress fracture. By the time the Packers begin training camp, McKinstry should be back on the field, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. In spite of being unable to test in Indianapolis due to the Jones fracture, McKinstry managed to run a 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds during Alabama’s pro day.
In addition to the top prospects, the Packers have added Michigan offensive lineman Zak Zinter, who raises another injury question. Zinter is currently rated as a late third-round draft pick, 100th on the consensus draft board.
