Leeds United news as Daniel Farke manager appointment ‘imminent’ after coach jets in

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines as it looks like the protracted head coach search is almost over ahead of the squad’s return to Thorp Arch

Daniel Farke appointment imminent

Leeds United are reportedly set to finally appoint their new head coach after a protracted saga that has been slowed down by the speed of the EFL takeover approval process.

The Athletic report that Daniel Farke will be named as the new Whites boss on Tuesday, after he flew into the country on Monday night. Leeds players will complete their second day of pre-season testing at Leeds Carnegie on Tuesday, before their return to Thorp Arch on Wednesday, when Farke will be able to take charge.

The club were looking to wait for the completion of the 49ers Enterprises takeover before making their appointment, but with EFL ratification still not through, they did not feel they could hold on any longer and needed Farke in place for the summer’s first training session.

Farke, who has won promotion to the Premier League twice with Norwich City, will have little time adjust to his new situation, with Leeds’ first pre-season friendly taking place next Wednesday when the Whites play Manchester United in Oslo, ahead of their Championship opener against Fulham on Sunday, August 6.

Pre-season points to prove ahead of new Leeds United head coach squad audit

It’s the first day of pre-season for Leeds United with less than five weeks to go until the start of the new Championship season. The Whites won’t be on the Thorp Arch field today while they go through various tests and medical examinations at Leeds Beckett University.

However, the players will be out on the turf later this week and despite no head coach being in place, they’ll be striving to put their best foot forward and catch the eye in training.

Some, though, will be keen to use the next few weeks as an opportunity to draw a line under last season’s struggles and start afresh by proving a point.

Here are three Leeds United players that will be looking to do exactly that.

Farke lessons to take from starts at previous clubs

Daniel Farke looks to be the man in the frame for the vacant manager’s role at Elland Road. The German manager appears to have won the race for the Whites’ top job, but the takeover hold up seems to be delaying an announcement.

However, in one of the shortest pre-season campaigns in recent times, that does prove a rather large hitch in Leeds’ preparations for the new Championship season. The Whites have less than five weeks to go until their opener against Cardiff City and the new man must attempt to cram as much in as possible in order to get his message across.

It’s a tricky task and while the club remain calm, supporters are starting to get a little anxious. Hands are tied somewhat, but the head coach will be putting a pre-season plan together and doing his homework on his players behind the scenes to give himself the best chance of hitting the ground running.

It’s a unique period, but the sooner Farke, if, as expected, the job goes to him, can get to work, the better. With that in mind, Leeds Live take a look at how Farke has started at his previous clubs.
