Brown Provides Good News About Hurt Players Burks and Lathan

WEST HARTFORD, W.Va. Regarding a couple of scary injuries that happened during Saturday’s 24-21 upset victory over TCU, Neal Brown had some good news on Monday.
No cost safety Due to injuries they sustained against the Horned Frogs, outside linebacker Trey Lathan and quarterback Aubrey Burks required emergency medical attention on the field.

After being hurt while covering an Oliver Straw punt during the second quarter, Burks was removed from the field using a medial cart.

Early in the fourth quarter, Lathan was hurt, and he too needed a medical cart. They were both taken to a Fort Worth hospital for monitoring. Surgery was necessary for Lathan’s injury, and it was completed successfully on Sunday.

Brown stated, “Aubrey is in good spirits and he is going to be okay. All of his tests were negative.” “Although it was frightening, the outcome was ideal. He will follow protocol after all of his tests came back negative, and then we’ll see how he is.

Brown continued, “Trey had a successful surgery yesterday. He will obviously miss the entire year, but he is expected to make a full recovery.”

Brown praised the TCU and West Virginia University medical teams for providing both injured players with excellent care.

“I want to give special thanks to our doctors, trainers, and medical staff because I think they did an amazing job. And I want to send a massive

According to Brown, Burks’ close friend and Lathan’s high school teammate, running back CJ Donaldson Jr., may have been the player most impacted by the two injuries. When Donaldson was carted off the field at Texas last year, the circumstances were similar.

The Mountaineers’ challenging September schedule, which included conference games against Texas Tech and TCU as well as physical football matches against rivals Penn State and Pitt, came to an end on Saturday with the TCU victory.

Starting left tackle Wyatt Milum was poked in the eye by TCU, and starting guard Tomas Rimac twisted his ankle during the Texas Tech game and reinjured it. When West Virginia attempted to score a touchdown from the TCU 1 in the fourth quarter, neither of them was available.

Regarding Milum’s injury, Brown remarked, “It was kind of unfortunate.” “It was following the play, and though he wanted to play, his eye was closed all the way. Had it been a boxing match, they would have put an end to it since he was blind.

It’s still too early to tell, Tomas. If we were playing on Saturday, it would be difficult, but since we’re not, Brown said, “I think we’ll see how it goes.” It won’t be something that prevents him from playing for a long time.

Hershey McLaurin, the starting spear, also observed the game’s conclusion from the sidelines.

“We’ll see on him, but I think he could have returned to the game,” Brown remarked.

Though Brown had assumed Nicco Marchiol would start at quarterback for TCU, Marchiol ended up rolling his ankle during Wednesday’s practice, forcing Brown to go with Garrett Greene, who hurt his ankle on the sixth play of the Pitt victory and was sidelined for the entire Texas Tech game.

As a result, Brown had to abandon his strategy and take a different approach on Thursday.

“It was probably as strange of a game-plan week as we could have had last week,” he remarked. “I’ve been doing this offensively for a long time.” “I didn’t want to play Garrett until he was 100% because up until Thursday morning, he didn’t do much and didn’t look too good in terms of movement. Next, Nicco hurts
