Report: Newcastle could now make loan signing in one position
Newcastle United might have to get creative during what remains of the transfer window.
While the club have managed to bring in three players this summer, Eddie Howe has stressed Newcastle do not operate with a bottomless pit of resources despite PIF’s investment.
Indeed, FFP constraints linger and there do not appear to be too many sellable assets in the squad now Allan Saint-Maximin has departed.
As such, it seems the club are prepared to explore the loan market.
Where Newcastle could make a loan signing this summer
One of the biggest areas of concern has to be in defence.
Though the team’s strong point last season, the options behind Fabian Schar and Sven Botman don’t look particularly convincing.
Howe might have spoken positively about Jamaal Lascelles during pre-season but the 29-year-old made only two Premier League starts last season.
With that in mind, The Athletic suggest the club could look to the temporary market in that position.
Given neither Schar nor Botman require massive upgrades at this time, albeit the former probably will long-term given he is over 30, a loan signing might be sought.

Could be a necessary evil for Newcastle this summer
It’s hard to frame loan additions as quite as exciting as long-term signings costing millions.
Still, that is merely optics.
A loan move does not mean whoever may arrive would necessarily be a bad signing.
The club’s recruitment work since the takeover is to be applauded and, with FFP looming large, their hands are somewhat tied.
A convincing back-up in to cover Schar in particular would strengthen the squad, there is little doubt about that. If the budget cannot stretch quite that far, why not explore that market?
It’s better than nothing.
