A few football players from Virginia Tech should visit the transfer portal.
It wouldn’t surprise me if one or more Hokies players used the transfer portal when it opens today.
Today is the opening of the spring transfer portal, and some Virginia Tech football players should be adding their names to it. Who knows for sure, but be prepared for some to try their luck.
There is a brief window of opportunity—just 15 days—but participants are not required to commit; they can commit later. Head coach Brent Pry expressed satisfaction with his team’s current position after Saturday’s Spring Game, compared to this same point last season. However, with the transfer portal, things can quickly change.
Although Pop Watson and Dylan Wittke are fighting for the No. 2 spot behind Kyron Drones, Pry stated that that might be a very surprising entry.
At the time, the quote seemed strange, but it illustrates what coaches are doing this time of year: regardless of how strong their roster is, they are monitoring the transfer portal. In the long run, the Hokies may also need to address the need for another offensive lineman.
In college sports, the transfer portal has gained popularity. While it wouldn’t be shocking if some Virginia Tech players used it, it also wouldn’t be shocking if none did. You can always count on someone to walk in these days.

After the spring practice season concluded, Brad Crawford of 247Sports published his revised Top 25 rankings for the upcoming fall season. Although Virginia Tech remained in the top 25, they dropped in this edition.

In February, Virginia Tech was ranked No. 23, but they dropped one
Even with one week left, Virginia Tech is one school where not many players have accessed the spring transfer portal. After putting on a strong show in the Military Bowl victory over Tulane, quarterback Kyron Drones appeared to be ready to continue where he left off in the 2023 campaign during the Hokies Spring Game. With an offense that has had a lot of retention, his mobility in the pocket, willingness to put his head down and run with it, and powerful arm will make him challenging to defend.
Although it was only a spring game, the Hokies’ defense looked strong, but much like their offense, they have some retention issues. They’ve got
