The Daily Mail claims that Rangers want to sign Stoke City sensation Sol Sidibe this summer before Chelsea and AC Milan.

The news outlet claims on their website (May 14) that following his breakthrough season in the Championship, the 17-year-old midfielder has drawn interest from the best clubs in Europe.
Sidibe has played for England at the Under-17 level, but despite his age, moving away from England isn’t too difficult to do because he has a French passport through his father, former Premier League striker Mamady Sidibe.

Although Chelsea is now leading the race to sign him, AC Milan and Rangers have also been monitoring him all season.

Rangers have always desired the best young talent to come through the Ibrox academy.

Recent successes include Ross McCausland, Alex Lowry, and Leon King. Robbie Fraser, Bailey Rice, and Cole McKinnon are also well-regarded.

It is evident that the club has a clear plan for the young players they are investing in when they close in on signing Alexander Smith to his first professional contract ahead of Arsenal.
Sidibe is currently a regular member of the first team, and since a rebuild is anticipated at Ibrox this summer, he may play a part in it. However, the pressures of competing in the Championship and the SPFL are very different.

He certainly has the talent to enter the game and be a possibility, but it’s unclear if Rangers could match the financial demands of the other teams to sign him.

In other Rangers news, Tony Docherty was “angry” following an action taken by a Gers star against Dundee in the first half.
