West Ham consider moving for Chelsea full back Ian Maatsen as Aaron Cresswell nears a £2.5m switch to Premier League rivals Wolves

Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen is among those being considered by West Ham to replace Aaron Cresswell who is in talks to join Wolves for just over £2.5m.

The Dutch full back returned to Chelsea after enjoying a superb season on loan at Burnley.

Maatsen played 42 times for the Clarets in all competitions, with the left back contributing four goals and six assists.

The 21-year-old was one of four Burnley players included in the Championship team of the season, after Vincent Kompany’s side claimed the title to seal an immediate return to the Premier League.

Burnley are reportedly keen to bring Maatsen back to Turf Moor on a permanent deal, while Nottingham Forest also hold an interest.

West Ham may now enter the race for Maatsen’s signature with the Hammers seeking a replacement for Aaron Cresswell.

Cresswell is in talks over a move to Wolves where he will link up again with former Hammer Craig Dawson.

The 33-year old has been a staunch servant to West Ham since joining from Ipswich Town for £3.75million in 2014.

He has gone on to make over 330 appearances for the club, earning three England caps on the way, and culminating in the Europa Conference League win over Fiorentina.

Cresswell has increasingly been on the bench, with West Ham now looking to bring in a younger left-back.

Maatsen, who has also had loan spells at Charlton and Coventry during his development, has travelled to the United States as part of Chelsea’s 29-man squad for their pre-season tour.

He faces an uphill task to force his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s side with Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella and Lewis Hall among the Argentine’s options at left back.

A move to the London Stadium would see Maatsen challenge Emerson Palmieri for a starting berth.
