A former Alabama player addresses the notion that the Crimson Tide winning 10-2 in 2024 would be tragic.

The question on everyone’s mind in college football is whether Kalen DeBoer can successfully take over as head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide after Nick Saban leaves. Outsiders want to know if Alabama remains stable in Saban’s absence.

On the Paul Finebaum Show, Matt Hayes, a College Football Writer for Saturday Down South, was discussed. He declared that a 10-2 season for Alabama the following year would “be a tragedy.” An 11-1 victory for the Crimson Tide, according to Hayes, “might be a tragedy.”

Former Alabama offensive lineman Alphonse Taylor is not of the same opinion. Hayes’ opinion was addressed on social media by the two-time national champion and four-time Southeastern Conference champion. Taylor called Hayes’ perspective “egregious.”

Alabama would have a successful season if it finished as an SEC Champion and made the College Football Playoff with a 10-2 or 11-1 record. The Tide has a tough schedule in the first season of a 12-team CFP, but it will have a chance to get in if it operates the situation well.

We released our Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings last week. We now have some inquiries concerning the teams that advanced. Will it be possible for new quarterbacks to get adjusted before the season begins? Can inexperienced coaches win over their players’ trust? And can outstanding units continue to be effective.

Last season, Georgia’s pass defense performed admirably once more, finishing sixth in the FBS in terms of yards allowed per attempt. However, with safeties Javon Bullard and Tykee Smith as well as lockdown cornerback Kamari Lassiter leaving for the NFL, the Bulldogs will need to make some secondary roster changes. Putting together a dependable rotation will be crucial in the spring because Coach Kirby Smart has stacked the roster with highly regarded defensive backs. Georgia’s coaches convinced cornerbacks Daniel Harris and Julian Humphrey to stay after they were on the verge of leaving through the transfer portal. They, along with junior Daylen Everette, will be vying for starting positions. Malaki Starks, an All-American, is back at free safety, and Joenel Aguero appears to be a lock for the nickelback (star) position. Dan Jackson, Senior

With the pressure to build on what Kyle McCord, who transferred to Syracuse, accomplished for the first 11 games of the previous season before suffering a third straight loss to Michigan, Howard arrives from Kansas State.

Now that Bo Nix’s eligibility has finally run out, Oregon will have to start a new quarterback in the upcoming campaign. Coach Dan Lanning and his staff took advantage of the transfer portal to sign five-star recruit Dante Moore from UCLA and Dillon Gabriel from Oklahoma, thus resolving one of the Ducks’ biggest springtime questions. Gabriel seems to be the favorite to start after a 3,660-yard, 30-touchdown season at Oklahoma, but Moore’s potential has obviously not yet been reached after just one season. Moore had trouble leading the Bruins in his debut season, but he displayed glimmers of the talent that had made him one of the best quarterbacks in his class in high school. Oregon hopes to win a national championship, and providing an answer to its quarterback dilemma (as

Kansas State’s offense played a major role in the team’s success over the previous two seasons, which included 19 wins and a Big 12 title. Four of the six offensive linemen that started for that offense in 2023 are no longer with them, including Cooper Beebe, who will have his name called in the NFL draft in April. Will Howard, the team’s quarterback, and Ben Sinnott, a potential NFL player, the only two dependable pass-catchers, are also gone from the Wildcats. Although Avery Johnson, a dual-threat quarterback, comes in with a lot of potential, the Wildcats undoubtedly have a lot of work ahead of them come springtime. — Lyles
