Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy is scheduled to visit three universities.
Maalik Murphy, the quarterback for the Texas Longhorns, has three visits scheduled in less than a day after registering for the transfer portal.
According to Greg Biggins of 247 Sports, Murphy visited Duke on Friday and has scheduled visits with Baylor and Oregon State for the upcoming weekend
.
It’s evident that colleges who have already lost a starting quarterback to the portal find Murphy to be a compelling alternative. Riley Leonard transferred from Duke to Notre Dame, and DJ Uiagalelei of Oregon State has not yet decided where to enroll after putting his name in the portal. Having lost two-year starter Blake Shapen to Mississippi State through the portal, Baylor finds itself in a similar situation.
Despite the fact that the Longhorns are getting ready for their College Football Playoff game, Murphy accessed the portal on Thursday. Throughout the season, the redshirt freshman was Quinn Ewers’ main backup. He performed well enough in his limited playing time that there were rumors that he might force Arch Manning to transfer.
Earlier this month, McCord used the transfer portal because he was unhappy with his situation at Ohio State.
Before news broke that the 21-year-old had chosen to take a different path, earlier reports had McCord associated with a different Power Five university. Concurrent with those reports came rumors that McCord might decide to commit to Syracuse.
With the Buckeyes this season, McCord completed 12 games with 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns passing.
McCord is unquestionably a better quarterback than senior Garrett Shrader, who is leaving. In 11 games, Syracuse’s QB1 for the 2023 campaign completed passes for 1,686 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions.
In 2024, Syracuse will usher in a new chapter with the departure of longtime head coach Dino Babers. During Babers’ eight years as the Orange’s coach, from 2016 to 2023, the team only had two winning seasons.
Syracuse will try to create some orange waves the following season with a new head coach and quarterback for the 2024 campaign.
At Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula, Montana, on Saturday, Montana defeated North Dakota State 31-29 in their FCS semifinal game. A spectacular 2-point conversion in the second overtime period played a major role in the victory.
Montana received the ball first to start the second overtime as the game was tied at 23 at the end of the first.
After grabbing a 29-23 lead, the Grizzlies added two more points. They tried a trick play where they faked a handoff and pitched to Junior Bergen, who had already started moving, thinking he was going to throw the ball. After Bergen’s pass was tipped, Keelan White made the catch in the end zone to give his team a 31-23 lead.
Following that, NDSU gained possession of the ball and made it 31-29 with a touchdown. They attempted to tie the game by going for two, but the game was ended when their trick play was intercepted in the end zone.
Now, Montana will play South Dakota State in the FCS Championship on January 7.
