TalkSPORT pundit shares what he’s heard about Jamie Vardy amid links to Wrexham, striker is ‘considering…’
On Thursday it was revealed that Jamie Vardy will be leaving Leicester City this summer. Could he yet be a summer signing for Wrexham?
Jamie Vardy is certainly one of the Premier League’s greats with 143 goals in 338 top flight games, as well as that memorable Premier League win back in 2016.
But Vardy is set to leave Leicester City this summer and where he ends up next is anyone’s guess. Links to Wrexham have been persistent throughout the season, though, and many think the 38-year-old arriving at the Racecourse this summer is inevitable.
It’s thought that Wrexham have been showing an interest in Vardy throughout the campaign but it’s also been reported that Vardy will only play for an overseas club when he leaves Leicester City, given his affiliation to the Foxes.
Where that might be has just become clearer after what Jim White has revealed for talkSPORT.
Wrexham target Jamie Vardy ‘considering’ MLS offers after leaving Leicester City
The MLS is rapidly becoming a hot spot for the elder statesmen of the Premier League. This summer we could see the likes of Kevin De Bruyne make the switch and potentially Vardy too, who’ll no doubt have suitors in the States should he decide that’s where he wants to go and play next.
And speaking on talkSPORT, presenter Jim Whites revealed that his talkSPORT sources had been informed that Vardy was set to mull over MLS opportunities after announcing his Leicester City exit this summer. White said: “He’ll be considering offers, we hear, from the MLS, so it could well be that Jamie Vardy at 38 ends up Stateside.”
Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham already have an ageing frontline. But Steven Fletcher remains out of contract this summer and he may well move on if Wrexham earn promotion from League One this season.
What Wrexham fans are saying about Jamie Vardy right now
Many general football fans and rival football fans are predicting that Vardy to Wrexham is now an almost inevitable transfer. But Dragons fans aren’t so sure.
In fact, Wrexham fans don’t want Vardy to join this summer. Many feel that the club needs to move on from signing older players and start signing younger, or at least a mix of the two.
That, and Vardy would surely command a huge weekly wage which could be better put to use on multiple players this summer. First things first though, Wrexham need to earn promotion, which they can do if they beat Charlton Athletic on Saturday and of Wycombe Wanderers lose at Leyton Orient.
Vardy may well be keeping an eye on how Wrexham fare as he’ll have no doubt seen some of the speculation brewing following his announcement on Thursday.
